Research and Development
NERC developed three phases small wind turbines for battery charging in three phases as follows:
Phase one:
A 500 watt turbine was developed using:
- Car Alternator
- Gear Box
- Blades - were designed and manufactured locally
- Tower - was designed and manufactured locally, simple to install and erect.
Phase Two:
A 500 - 1000 watt wind turbine was developed using:
- Car Alternator
- Speed transformer using Timing Belt - was designed and manufactured locally.
- New type of Blades - was designed and manufactured locally with less weight and cost.
- The Tower in phase one was used also in this phase
Phase Three:
- A wind turbine with a capacity of 1000 watt is under development. This turbine will consist of a permanent magnet low speed generator (DC PMG) which will be developed in cooperation with Durham University.
An agreement '' Know – How Evaluation License'' was signed between NERC and the University of Durham to design, develop and manufacture a permanent magnet electrical generator with 1000 watt capacity and 400 rpm speed, this generator will be used in manufacturing a gearless electrical
